The AMA (WA) is a powerful advocate for General Practice

Need to make an Industrial Relations enquiry?

The AMA (WA) works as a collective voice for General Practitioners (GPs) across Western Australia, advocating for their interests at both state and federal levels. We offer tailored support to help GPs navigate various professional and business matters, as well as provide guidance to GP Registrars throughout their training.

Our General Practice advocacy is informed by the work and guidance of the AMA (WA) General Practice Group, which is active on key matters of concern to GPs in Western Australia.

We support GPs and GP Registrars with:

  • Industrial and Employment Advice: Guidance on employment contracts, workplace relations, and GP training matters.

  • Dealing with Complaints and Ethical Issues: Assistance in resolving disputes and addressing ethical concerns.

  • Medicare Audits and Fees: Support for navigating Medicare audits and setting appropriate fees.

  • FREE CPD Home Subscriber Plan: All AMA (WA) members now have exclusive FREE access to a platform to plan, track and complete their required 50 hours of CPD.

  • Training and Professional Development: Resources for GP Registrars undertaking hospital and General Practice placements, as well as business and CPD programs.

  • Additional Support Services: A wide range of resources designed to enhance your professional practice.

General Practice Group

The AMA (WA) General Practice Group is dedicated to advocating for GPs across Western Australia, focusing on the issues that directly impact GPs and their patients. Chaired by Dr Mary Wyatt and vice chaired by Dr Andrew Png, the group plays an integral role in shaping AMA (WA) policy and lobbying for improvements in General Practice. Key activities of the General Practice Group include:

  • Advocating for better employment conditions and recognition of GPs as specialists.
  • Working to secure improved Medicare rebates for GPs.
  • Supporting rural GPs, including advocating for appropriate funding for rural health services and telehealth.

Through these meetings, the General Practice Group provides a platform for GPs to raise concerns, discuss policies, and shape the future of healthcare in Western Australia. GPs are welcome to contact the AMA (WA) to contribute to ongoing discussions or raise any issues they feel require attention.

The group convenes at the AMA (WA) head office in Nedlands. Rural GPs are encouraged to participate via video conferencing to ensure all voices are heard.
